Climbing the valley Spluga towards the north until you reach an altitude of 1070 meters, you’ll discover Campodolcino, a village located on a vast lush-green plateau crossed by the Liro river. Campodolcino and its neighbouring villages represent unspoiled, natural landscapes boasting picturesque perspectives and where tradition remains the key player. It is known for its optimum climate, tranquillity and splendidly natural, unbroken landscape encompassing more than 6 km in total. Perfect for any number of trekking or mountain bike excursions, all of which offer the opportunity to appreciate an environment with nature itself at its very heart. The little town forms a vital stage along the historic Via Spluga, connecting Thusis in Switzerland to Chiavenna, a genuinely evocative hiking trail taking in history, culture and of course splendid Alpine landscapes. And of course once the snow arrives the landscape is magically transformed into a vast playground bursting with fun, sport and excitement. In winter Campodolcino is the perfect destination for lovers of Alpine sports of every kind; taking the Sky Express funicular railway from the village means arriving at Alpe Motta (1721 m.) in just 3 minutes! From here it’s onwards and upwards on modern transport systems throughout the entire Valchiavenna Ski Area. Cross country skiing enthusiasts have a choice of two rather different types of trail: a gentle, flat loop of around 6 km, and a more demanding 5 km track in Alpe Motta.
